The Box Tree Moth is an herbivore that was first detected in the USA in summer 2021. The pest's specialist feeding on boxwoods is a major threat to a commonly planted ornamental shrub and to Michigan's nursery and landscape industry. Detection of box tree moth and infested plants at multiple Michigan sites triggered immediate management and eradication efforts. This poster highlights the steps for an effective partnership by Extension professionals with a regulatory agency for a rapid response program in residential areas with high visibility and complex sampling logistics. These efforts included bi-weekly sampling at 47 sites. No further box tree moths were found in Michigan in 2021, and sampling continues at a subset of sites in 2022 to confirm that eradication efforts were successful.
