Early season flowers provide important nectar and pollen resources to emerging and early season pollinators. In the Kootenay region of Southeastern BC, Camassia quamash (Common Camas) is one of the earliest floral resources and supports a diverse community of pollinators, consisting mainly of bees (Anthophila). Despite the diversity supported, Common Camas only flowers for a few weeks early in the spring, yet many pollinators live throughout the spring and summer and require other floral resources. I will share a series of plant-pollinator networks that illustrate the diversity of camas-pollinator interactions as well as the changes in plant and pollinator communities that occur in camas meadows through the season.
