The endangered Oregon silverspot butterfly lives in coastal meadow systems along the Oregon coast in the United States. Although captive rearing programs have been in effect for many years, they have not been as effective as expected and more study is required to determine why. As part of a 3-year study led by Dr. Cheryl Schultz, Dr. Rich Van Buskirk, and Dr. Erica Henry, this butterfly will be monitored and studied in three locations: Nestucca Bay, Rock Creek, and Mount Hebo. Nestucca Bay Wildlife Refuge is the site of reintroduction and restoration efforts, which include the testing of treatment applications and their effects on Oregon silverspot response and habitat. The three treatments being tested are low mowing, single prescribed burn, and double prescribed burn. This analysis evaluates the results of oviposition surveys conducted in the summer of 2022.
